About Cocoa
Cocoa is grown almost exclusively in a narrow band near the equator, with Côte d'Ivoire and Ghana together producing roughly 60% of global supply. In 2024, cocoa prices reached an all-time high above $11,000/MT — surpassing copper per tonne — driven by severe El Niño-related crop failures and a disease outbreak (CSSV) devastating West African trees. Given the 5–7 year maturation period for new cocoa trees, supply responses to high prices are structurally slow, creating persistent price pressure.
