About Avalanche
Avalanche is a Layer 1 blockchain platform designed for high throughput and near-instant transaction finality, founded by Emin Gün Sirer and launched in 2020. It runs on a novel Proof of Stake consensus protocol that achieves sub-second finality by having validators repeatedly sample each other until they reach agreement. Uniquely, Avalanche supports multiple interoperable blockchains — a default network of three chains (X-Chain, C-Chain, P-Chain) — and allows developers to launch customisable 'Subnets', essentially their own blockchains with custom rules. AVAX is the native token used to pay fees, secure the network through staking, and serve as the base currency across all subnets.
