About Polkadot
Polkadot is a Layer 0 'multi-chain' network created by Ethereum co-founder Gavin Wood and launched in 2020, designed to connect many specialised blockchains into a unified network. It uses a Nominated Proof of Stake (NPoS) mechanism where token holders nominate trusted validators to secure the central Relay Chain and all connected 'parachains'. Projects can lease one of a limited number of parachain slots through on-chain auctions, gaining access to Polkadot's shared security and interoperability without building their own validator set. DOT is the native token used for governance votes, bonding to secure parachain slots, and staking to earn rewards for securing the network.
