About Cosmos
Cosmos bills itself as the 'Internet of Blockchains' — an ecosystem of interoperable chains built using the Cosmos SDK, founded by Jae Kwon and Ethan Buchman and launched in 2019. Each chain in the Cosmos ecosystem runs its own Tendermint-based Proof of Stake consensus and communicates with others through the Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) protocol, which is like TCP/IP for blockchains. ATOM is the native staking token of the Cosmos Hub, the central coordinating chain of the network, and is used to secure the hub, pay fees, and participate in governance.
