About Algorand
Algorand is a pure Proof of Stake blockchain founded by Turing Award-winning MIT cryptographer Silvio Micali and launched in 2019. It uses a unique 'Pure Proof of Stake' mechanism that randomly selects validators in a way that is both fast and secure — achieving finality in under 5 seconds with no possibility of forking. ALGO is used to pay transaction fees (some of the lowest in crypto, fractions of a cent) and participate in block validation. Algorand has focused on real-world institutional use cases, including being selected by the Marshall Islands for their national digital currency (SOV) and by FIFA for its official digital platform.
