About Stellar
Stellar is an open-source payment protocol founded in 2014 by Jed McCaleb (also a co-founder of Ripple) and Joyce Kim, designed to connect financial institutions and reduce the cost of cross-border transactions. It uses the Stellar Consensus Protocol (SCP), a federated Byzantine agreement system that is fast, energy-efficient, and allows nodes to reach agreement without trusting every other participant. XLM (Lumens) serve as a small transaction fee to prevent spam and as a bridge currency to facilitate multi-currency transfers in a single transaction. Stellar has partnered with major organisations including IBM, MoneyGram, and VISA, and hosts stablecoin issuers such as Circle (USDC) on its network.
