About Cardano
Cardano is a peer-reviewed, research-driven Layer 1 blockchain founded by Ethereum co-founder Charles Hoskinson and launched in 2017. It uses a Proof of Stake consensus mechanism called Ouroboros โ the first provably secure PoS protocol โ designed to be more energy-efficient and scientifically rigorous than Bitcoin's mining approach. ADA is the native token used to pay transaction fees, participate in staking, and vote on protocol upgrades through on-chain governance. Cardano's development follows a staged academic roadmap, with each phase adding capabilities: Byron (foundation), Shelley (decentralisation), Goguen (smart contracts), Basho (scaling), and Voltaire (governance).
