About Internet Computer
The Internet Computer (ICP) is a blockchain-based cloud computing platform created by the DFINITY Foundation, led by Dominic Williams, and launched in May 2021. Its ambitious goal is to extend the public internet so it can natively host software and services — meaning entire websites, apps, and enterprise systems — without relying on centralised cloud providers like AWS or Google Cloud. It uses a 'Chain Key' cryptography system and Threshold Relay consensus allowing the network to add unlimited capacity by onboarding new subnet blockchains while maintaining interoperability. ICP is used to pay for computation and storage on the network, and holders can lock tokens into 'neurons' to participate in governance and earn rewards.
