About BNB
BNB (originally Binance Coin) is the native token of the BNB Chain ecosystem and the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange, Binance, founded by Changpeng Zhao in 2017. It started as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum before migrating to its own blockchain and is used to pay for trading fees on Binance at a discount, as gas on BNB Smart Chain, and to participate in token sales. BNB uses a Proof of Staked Authority consensus mechanism combining Proof of Stake with Proof of Authority for fast, low-cost transactions. Binance regularly conducts quarterly token burns, permanently removing BNB from circulation, targeting a total burn of 100 million tokens to reduce the supply over time.
