About Bitcoin
Bitcoin is the world's first decentralized cryptocurrency, invented in 2009 by the pseudonymous Satoshi Nakamoto. It runs on a Proof of Work blockchain where miners compete to validate transactions and earn newly created Bitcoin — with a hard cap of 21 million coins making it the most provably scarce digital asset ever created. Bitcoin is often called 'digital gold' because many investors hold it as a long-term store of value rather than using it for everyday payments. Roughly every four years, the reward given to miners gets cut in half in an event called the 'halving', which has historically preceded significant price increases.
