About Shiba Inu
Shiba Inu launched anonymously in August 2020 as an Ethereum-based meme token inspired by the Dogecoin community, billing itself as the 'Dogecoin Killer'. Unlike DOGE, SHIB lives on Ethereum as an ERC-20 token, which means it can be used in DeFi protocols, NFT markets, and decentralised exchanges — giving it utility beyond being a simple joke. A significant portion of SHIB's supply was burned when the creator sent half the initial supply to Vitalik Buterin, who subsequently donated and burned the majority of it. The SHIB ecosystem has expanded to include its own decentralised exchange (ShibaSwap), a Layer 2 blockchain (Shibarium), and a regular token-burn program that permanently removes SHIB from circulation to reduce the supply over time.
